This Dress is for the Birds

Here’s a very quick sketch of a technique that you can use to make your doll’s dress “poof” out.  Make a bird cage!

I want some type of renaissance-looking thing that “poofs” out.  In order to achieve it, just make three rings using thin armature wire or pipe cleaners.  Each ring should be slightly larger than the first.   Attach ribbons, and make one ribbon as the waist band.  You can use a small fourth ring instead if it is easier, since nobody will see it once she is dressed.

You can then drape the skirt or petticoat over the rings and you’ll have a lovely renaissance-looking poofy dress.

This “hoop apparatus” is simple to make.   Looks like tomorrow will be hardware store day for me!
