Making fingernails on hands sculpted from polymer clay is fun and easy.
I use a simple tool to create them.
I just finished making a cute little pair of hands. One of the things I like most about making polymer clay hands is the fingernails. They’re quick and easy, and they look great.
- Cut a small straw at an angle. Press into the tops of the fingers to make indents in the shape of a nail.
- To make the nails look like they are growing above the fingertip, shape them with a small blunt knife with a thin blade. You can use an Exacto knife or something smaller, if possible. The blade should have a chiseled edge.
- Continue to gently push and shape the clay, but don’t go too deep. Round them out a bit so the nails look like they are growing out of the fingers.

This post was edited with original photos intact. It is nostalgic and was created with the help of my oldest daughter, whose hand was little at the time!
Thanks for reading, and have a dollightful day!
